On forgiveness
How easy to forgive the dead, whose deeds are done, whose words are said, who cannot ask nor yet refuse that love the living might abuse. How small and far appears a crime viewed through the backward lens of time; how hard to love, how hard to pray for him who'll sin again today. The peace we make with living men will break, and scar, and break again. No wonder we're inclined instead to save our mercy for the dead. ©Tom Lips, 1981

AuthorI began writing something approximating verse when I was 11 years old, and I am still learning. Poetry, good or bad, arises from observation, experience, and the sheer love of playing with language. Archives
